Mesh, BLE or RFID?

The three are often spoken of as rivals. They are better understood as three different questions: where is it now, who has it, and did it pass this point?

Side by side.

How to choose.

Start with the question your client actually asks. A hospital that cannot find a wheelchair wants a position, so it wants a mesh. A plant hire company that wants to know which van took which generator wants a beacon. A distributor that wants each crate recorded as it passes the dock door wants RFID.

Then look at where the thing lives. A mesh belongs to a building: what leaves the building leaves the mesh. A beacon travels with the item and is heard wherever a tracker or a listener is in range. A label is read only where a reader stands.

Many sites end up with more than one. A warehouse can run a mesh on the floor and beacons on the trailers in its yard, and all of it appears in one account.

On Trackerserver, all three are InSight.

InSight Mesh

Battery tags, located inside a building by a Wirepas mesh of Teltonika anchors and gateways.

InSight BLE

Teltonika EYE beacons and sensors on equipment, heard by the tracker in the vehicle that tows it.

InSight RFID

RFID labels read by fixed readers, handhelds and readers on vehicles. In its final testing, with early access on request.
